AEW’s 3-hour block on Saturday loses over 1 million viewers along the way from NBA lead-in

AEW’s strategy on Saturday was try to hook those post-NBA game viewers to stick around for Collision and not switch channels, something that was successful for the first quarter.

In numbers released by Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics, the first seven minutes of the show had 1.35 million viewers – and 0.49 in 18-49 – remaining on for the Swerve Strickland promo but that went down to 850,000 viewers within the ending of the first full quarter hour.

Things quickly went on a slippery slope after that unfortunately and Swerve’s match against Claudio Castagnoli in the main event of the show finished with 440,000 viewers and just a 0.15 in 18-49.

It was even worse when Rampage kicked in as over 120,000 AEW fans tuned out of Collision, with Rampage starting at 314,000 and then ending the night with just 276,000.

From the first minute of Collision to the last minute of Rampage, AEW ended up losing 1,074,000 viewers slowly along the way. If you take Rampage out of the way that number decreases to 910,000 viewers lost.
