Simone Johnson defends choice of new WWE name

Simone Johnson, the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, already had to address the choice of her WWE name after a writer from GiveMeSport tweeted that giving her a new name unrelated to her family was “completely nonsensical.”

“I probably sound like a broken record & hopefully this is the last I’ll mention this but I don’t understand why people being portrayed as separate individuals from their family name is such a heated topic,” Simone wrote. “A name doesn’t discredit any prior accomplishments from any family.”

She noted that she could build her entire career around her father and people would still find a way to bash her anyway.

Another tweet also poked fun saying that it’s disappointing that she wasn’t called “The Pebble” instead. Johnson was not impressed and it’s something that she heard a million times throughout her life.

“I beg of you guys to find a new joke. Anything,” she wrote.

Johnson received her new name, Ava Raine, and changed her social media to reflect the new WWE character. Getting assigned a name typically means that a debut is coming soon.

She has been training at the WWE Performance Center since February 2020.
