Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that the Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida, is the front runner right now to be the next location of WWE’s ThunderDome.

The 30-year-old domed stadium is the home of the Tampa Bay Rays of the MLB and WWE could theoretically stay in the stadium until the new MLB season starts next year. The stadium sits just over 42,000 fans and would be an ideal location if the company starts allowing fans inside as they can seat everyone socially distanced due to the coronavirus. The state of Florida has given the green light for all stadiums to return to full capacity although that will likely not happen, not even for a WWE pay-per-view.

But an old stadium brings with it a lot of problems so while the company would be expanding as far the site goes, the infrastructure is far less than what they have right now at the Amway Center.

WWE has never run a show inside the Tropicana Field although the stadium hosted basketball, football, motorsports, and many concerts in the past.
