WWE announced yesterday that WrestleMania 36 will not be taking place in Tampa Bay, Florida, and will instead be airing live from the WWE Performance Center in a closed set, meaning no fans at all.
“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”
The news comes after weeks of speculations on what will happen to the show due the coronavirus pandemic.
“Our community has waited 36 years to host WrestleMania, and while we are saddened that this unforeseen situation has led us to today’s announcement, this is totally the right call for the safety and security of everyone involved. A huge thank-you to all of our local leaders and our friends at the WWE, as we collectively worked through the unprecedented fluidity of the last few weeks. The Team Tampa Bay-WWE partnership has never been stronger,” the Tampa Bay local organizing committee said in a statement afterward.
This will be the first time in 36 years that WrestleMania will be held without fans and in the smallest arena possible.
