AEW resurrects Bash at the Beach name for special Dynamite episode

Bash at the Beach, the old WCW pay-per-view name, is being resurrected by All Elite Wrestling as the company today announced that their January 15 episode of Dynamite will officially be referred to as AEW: Bash at the Beach.

The show will be airing live from the Watsco Center located at the University of Miami in Florida, the company’s first visit to the city. Tickets for this show go on sale this Friday at Noon ET at AEWTix.com. AEW is using a Miami Vice-type of logo to promote the show.

The Bash at the Beach trademark was filed by Cody Rhodes on March 18 of this year under entertainment services. The trademark had been “dead” since the closure of WCW and WWE never renewed the trademark application and never used the name following their WCW takeover.

Bash at the Beach ran from 1994 to 2000 as a pay-per-view and had a beach theme as the set. Five of the seven Bash at the Beach pay-per-views were held in Florida and the other two in California.

Perhaps the most famous Bash at the Beach was in 1996 when Hulk Hogan was revealed as the third man of the nWo. It was only a year earlier when Hogan made his WCW in-ring debut during the Bash at the Beach PPV in Huntington Beach, California, defeating Ric Flair to win the WCW title.
