Jim Ross confirms talks with AEW and discusses WWE exit

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross confirmed that he is in talks with All Elite Wrestling to potentially join the company once his current WWE deal expires at the end of this month.

Ross announced that he will no longer be working for WWE as his contract, which expires on March 29, will not be renewed on his request. Speaking to ESPN’s Outside The Lines, Ross said that he opted to leave because they’re not using him very much and he feels like he has some great years left. “I need to get out of the house. I need to get involved. I need to be around people,” Ross added.

He explained that he has no issues with anyone there and that was the only reason he requested to leave. He feels that WWE, just like many TV productions, are looking for younger people to be on television and he’s been around for a long time so he needed plan B, and plan B was to exit gracefully. “Vince McMahon and his family have been amazing to my family and in 2018, Vince took great care of me as he always has financially, but I had two bookings in 2018,” Ross continued.

He put over WWE and said that he had a lot of joy working there for the past 26 years, which “is an eternity in that world!”

Speaking about his next move and possibly joining AEW, Ross said he doesn’t know yet. “We’re talking, we’re talking. I just haven’t signed anything yet. My people and their people are doing their thing,” he said.

JR is expected to join the brand-new wrestling promotion and it wouldn’t be surprising if he’s heading up the booth for the Double or Nothing May pay-per-view.
