PWInsider.com is reporting that former WWE Women’s and Divas champion Mickie James has put pen-to-paper and signed a new WWE deal that was offered to her following her match against Asuka at NXT Takeover: Toronto.

This will be James’ second stint with the company, having previously been employed by WWE between 2003 and 2010. During that time, she won the WWE Women’s title five times and the Divas title once. PWInsider adds that James will start in January 2017 and will be part of the Smackdown roster. Smackdown has a weaker roster of women with popular Superstars such as Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Charlotte all on the red brand.

James made a one-time appearance at NXT Takeover last month to challenge Asuka for the NXT Women’s title however was unsuccessful in her quest. The decision to go with James rather than someone already in NXT was due to the fact that none of the women were deemed ready for that level yet, especially in a match against someone like Asuka.
