Variety with terrific article on John Cena’s recent movie work

Variety has a great article on John Cena and his work for two upcoming movies, Trainwreck and The Nest.

Judd Apatow, the director of Trainwreck, said he didn’t really know who John Cena was when he came to audition for the comedic role.

“I wasn’t so familiar with his other work, so I had no bias,” Apatow says. “I just saw him as an actor who was riotously funny. We read a bunch of people, and he was by far the funniest. Then he came and did a table read before we shot the movie, and got more laughs than anyone.”

Apatow went as far as calling Cena the most professional person he has ever met who is a great improviser and has a great sense of humor. Apatow then suggested Cena to Jason Moore, who directed the other movie, The Nest.

Amy Schumer, the female comedian who stars in Trainwreck with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, said that Cena’s comedic timing blew everyone away.

“He was as good an actor as anyone, and as funny as anyone. There were so many moments when I was crying on set.”

Schumer is the former girlfriend of Dolph Ziggler so she was familiar with Cena and his work.

The article is full of praise of the former WWE champion, painting him as the ultimate company man and someone who puts the wrestling business first in front of everything else in his career.
