WWE welcomes a new class of Hall of Famers

WWE welcomed 10 new members into the Hall of Fame last night in front of a packed crowd at the American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas.

Kicking things off were the APA who inducted The Godfather. JBL had some funny lines and was trying to recount some stories of the three of them but Simmons kept cutting him off because it wasn’t a smart idea. The Godfather came out and did his usual entrance shtick. He thanked the fans for everything and urged the current crop of Superstars to enjoy it because time doesn’t roll back. He said The Godfather and Charles Wright are the same person pretty much and invited everyone to Las Vegas to his strip club to share some stories because if he does it there he will get a lot of people in trouble!

Vader came out next to talk about his good friend Stan Hansen. He recounts a story when Hansen broke his nose before he even stepped in the ring and then popped his eye from his socket. Stan Hansen first thanked Vader and then JBL for keeping his name out there during commentary. He went over some stories about Backlund, Funk, and breaking Sammartino’s neck. He lost the train of thought at one point and had to restart.

The Dudley Boyz were next and had a hilarious exchange, first Bubba talking about their good friend Jacqueline and when D-Von was about to start, Bubba cut him off and said he should only say “testify!” Devon talked how cheap Jackie was on the road and sleeping at appropriate times to avoid paying tolls and even “forgetting” her wallet when going to eat. The former WWE Women’s champion kept her talk short and thanked Lita, Trish Stratus, Sable, Ivory, Molly Holly, Victoria, and Terri Runnels.

The New Day came out and did the best intro speech and some lines which had some sexual innuendo to them including how Freebirds were a great well-oiled machine as a unit, with Big E telling them that his unit is always oiled. Hayes and Garvin then came out and did an awesome speech but the two almost needed oxygen after dancing for a while with their intro. They did some stories and then invited Ray Gordy and Buddy Roberts Jr., the sons of their late tag team partners. Both thanked WWE for the honor. After the kids left, the Freebirds continued with awesome stories and even invited Kevin Von Erich to a big pop. Von Erich said that Freebirds were brothers because they loved each other, just like “The New Gay Guys” are brothers. Oops!

The Doctor of Style, Slick came out for The Big Boss Man induction. He thought he was in a church and told fans to yell “Amen” and told them he’s going to collect some money. He said heavens gained a guardian angel when Ray Traylor passed away. His two daughters and his wife came out to accept the honor on his behalf. One of the daughters talked about how she avoided talking about her father’s work at school because there were some stuff going on which was embarrassing for them, like having his face shoved in Rikishi’s ass, and serving the dog Pepper to Al Snow.

John Cena was out for his induction of Snoop Dogg. Cena kept his speech short and said when he says “Hi” to Snoop it doesn’t always mean “Hello!” He pointed out the fact that Snoop has made more WrestleMania appearances than 10 of the Superstars on tomorrow’s card. He called WWE Snoop’s home and there’s always interesting drug test results the next day after he leaves. Hah! Snoop came out and was very respectful and came out as a genuine fan who really loves WWE. He gave a shout out to his cousin Sasha Banks and said how proud he was of her. He closed his speech with a rap, something that he does “part time at home.” Good speech.

Dana Warrior presented Joan Lunden with the Warrior Award for her pulic work in the fight against breast cancer. Lunden thanked WWE fans and called them the best fans in the world.

Ric Flair was up next for the main event. It didn’t take long for him to cry and thanked the McMahon family for the way they kept honoring Dusty Rhodes and Roddy Piper after they passed. He had a shout out for his daughter Charlotte, and then started talking about Sting. Sting got a big ovation and had a terrific speech, first talking about how he and Warrior broke in the business. He said that he had some great highlights in WCW, including teaming with Robocop and the White Castle of Fear with Vader. Hah. He told a story how one time when the nWo cleaned house and he and Nash were down in the ring, Nash crawled next to Sting and asked him if he can spoon him! He thanked God, his family, and his children and said that he finally got to wrestle at a WrestleMania. He pointed out Road Dogg, Michael Hayes, and Jim Ross for their fantastic advice throughout the years and then announced his retirement.
