WWE receives the Sports Legacy Institute 2013 Impact Award

WWE was honored by the Sports Legacy Institute yesterday with an Impact Award in a ceremony held in Boston at the 6th annual Sports Legacy Institute’s 2013 Impact Awards. Stephanie McMahon and Triple H were present to collect the award.

SLI is headed by Chris Nowinski, a former WWE Superstar who had to retire due to a concussion he received in the ring. He founded the non-profit organization with Dr. Robert Cantu in 2007, and later that year they examined Chris Benoit’s brain after he died, revealing shocking results which WWE disputed by all possible means.

But in 2011, everything changed after Nowinski had a meeting with WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and the two started collaborating together for the same cause – finding a treatment for chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE as it is called.

WWE gave the Sports Legacy Institute $1.2 million earlier this year to fund a three year research on CTE and after seeing the progress that WWE made when it comes to taking care of concussions for their Superstars, SLI decided to give them this year’s Impact Award.

Nowinski did the introduction for WWE at the awards ceremony and both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon went up to accept the award. You can see nine photos from the awards below.
