Total Divas S8 E1 episode recap: Good Girls Don’t Make History

The brand-new season of Total Divas began in the city of New Orleans right before the biggest event on the wrestling calendar, WrestleMania.

However, before performing on the grandest stage of them all, Paige treated her fellow female Superstars to a unique Louisiana tourist experience: a swamp tour. While the thought was nice on Paige’s part, she shouldn’t quit her day job to become a tour guide. For one thing, Paige didn’t consider the fact that her friends may be a tad bit freaked out when cruising through the swamps surrounded by alligators. Furthermore Paige didn’t expect that the riverboat be surrounded by wild boar who thought that the Divas might make a tasty snack, and began attacking their boat. Needless to say, I doubt that any of the ladies will sign up for another tour of the swamps anytime soon.

Paige’s desire to visit unique New Orleans attractions didn’t end there. The next day, she was excited to take her friend and fellow Superstar, Nia Jax, for a cemetery photo shoot. Unfortunately for Paige, Nia was unable to participate in the photo shoot due to her obligations with WrestleMania Axxess. One might ask why Paige, who was once a Divas champion, wasn’t participating in any of the usual activities that preceed WrestleMania.

Well, for those of you who haven’t been keeping up lately, Paige has been forced to retire early due to a debilitating neck injury, and therefore ineligible in ring competition at Mania. Paige seemed more than a little bitter about the sudden end to her career. While her bitterness is understandable, I found of her actions would be extremely inappropriate. For example, when Nia told Paige that she wouldn’t be able to come to the photo shoot because of her WrestleMania obligations, Paige became angry and accused her of not wanting to be her friend because of her inability to wrestle. I think that maybe Paige should seek counseling before the anger and bitterness causes her to lose her friends forever.

Paige’s bizarre behavior didn’t end there though. In her never-ending quest to return to in-ring action, Paige chose to try some unconventional healing methods for her neck because traditional medicine had failed her. Her unusual methods included getting a psychic reading, and having a healing voodoo doll made for herself while she was in New Orleans.

One particular Diva, Naomi, was extremely disturbed by Paige’s use of nontraditional healing methods. Naomi refused to precipitate when Paige received her psychic reading even taking several steps back from the woman giving it. Paige then proceeded to play a trick on Naomi by giving the psychic $50 in order to tell Naomi that she wasn’t ready to be read. Personally, I think that Paige should be a bit more respectful of her friends, and thought it was extremely classy of Naomi to go to the downtown shop with Paige to have her voodoo doll made even if Naomi didn’t get out of the car once they reached the shop.

Meanwhile, Paige wasn’t the only Diva to cause drama in this week’s episode, Natalya caused some drama of her own for her friends, the Bella Twins.

While they were in New Orleans For WrestleMania, Brie and Nikki Bella decided to take the opportunity to promote their new lingerie line, Birdiebee, by selling the merchandise at the WWE store during WrestleMania. Naturally, the twins’ longtime friend Natalya was eager to help promote their new business venture, and therefore agreed to pass out flyers on Bourbon Street.

However, she also promised fans that if they came to the WWE store they would get to meet the Bella Twins in person, as well as Brie’s husband, WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan. This may have been a good marketing ploy if Natalya had actually checked with the Bellas before making these promises. However, she didn’t so the Bellas were unable to attend the opening of the WWE Shop, which could have been detrimental to the brand. Perhaps, Natalya should think next time before offering her help, but if she doesn’t, that will certainly make for more drama on this season of Total Divas.
