The Great Khali makes surprise return at Battleground

The Great Khali made a surprise return last night at Battleground to help Jinder Mahal retain the WWE title during the Punjabi prison match.

The former World Heavyweight champion came out towards the end of the match and prevented Randy Orton from escaping the outer structure. First, Khali shook the whole cage as Orton hung on not to fall down. Then, Khali grabbed Orton by the neck and held him, allowing enough time for Mahal to climb out and win the match.

Khali was last seen in WWE at the end of 2014 with his contract expiring in November of that year. WWE chose not to extend his deal. The 7’1″ monster was described by Mahal as one of his heroes before announcing the return of the Punjabi prison gimmick match a few weeks back on Smackdown.

During his time in WWE, Khali won the World Heavyweight title once, winning a 20-man battle royal on Smackdown in July 2007 for the vacant title.
