Mick Foley explains why he’s not signing a new WWE Legends deal

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley posted on his Facebook page that he is opting not to sign his new WWE Legends deal due to low checks, around 25% less than most people on the same deal were expecting.

“Last year, the explanation had something to do with the video game company going bankrupt – a real shame for me, since I was heavily featured as three characters from the “Attitude” era, complete with voice work. I haven’t heard this year’s explanation yet, but, personally. I think the #WWE just wants to see if the talent will accept a far lower percentage than had previously been given,” Foley wrote.

A Legends deal gives WWE the right to market anyone’s likeness on video games and action figures and other merchandise and a lot of former WWE Superstars and Divas are signed to such a deal. Foley said that very few wrestlers would jeopardize their status with WWE by refusing the check and most legends “will probably come to feel like anything they get from merchandise is better than nothing.”

Foley said that he will explain more in detail in a later post but for now until he hears a valid reason why strong sales of the new WWE video game resulted in lower checks, he’s opting out.
