Brock Lesnar defeats Mark Hunt at UFC 200

Brock Lesnar’s return to the UFC was a successful one as the former WWE and UFC Heavyweight champion managed to defeat Mark Hunt via unanimous decision at UFC 200 in Las Vegas. Brock now has an MMA record of 6-3.

The man known as the beast incarnate often said that diverticulitis prevented him from fighting at 100% and blamed his two previous loses to the disease. A perfectly-fit Lesnar, looking ripped at the weigh-ins on Friday night, dominated rounds one and three while round two was pretty much even. All judges scored the fight 29-27. Lesnar came in with the Enter Sandman song, opting not to use his WWE theme song.

Round one started slow but eventually Lesnar got some takedowns and managed to stay on top of Hunt. Round two was a snooze fest with both fighters standing up and not taking any chances. Round three was different and once Lesnar got the takedown on Hunt, he continued with ground and pound and stayed on top of him until the round was over.

After the fight, a very humble Lesnar thanked the fans for their support and then all those in uniform. He also had a message to America: to stand together. His wife Rena, better known to fans as Sable, then joined him for the celebration.

This was Lesnar’s first win in the UFC since July 2010, where he defeated Shane Carwin. His subsequent fights, against Cain Velasquez in October 2010 and then Alistair Overeem in December 2011, ended in a loss. He announced his retirement from the UFC in his post-fight interview following the loss to Overeem.

Lesnar’s involvement at UFC 200 came in at a complete surprise to both the wrestling and MMA worlds. Lesnar managed to reach an agreement with WWE to let him compete at UFC 200 and the UFC announced his participation in early June via a commercial promoting the event. In a post the next day on WWE.COM, the company said it gave Brock a one-time permission to pursue his desire to return to the Octagon and also announced that he would be part of SummerSlam.
