Opening next year, the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, has already two marquee events which it will be hosting – WrestleMania 31 in 2015 and the NFL’s SuperBowl the following year in 2016.
With an estimated construction cost of $1.2 billion, the nearly 70,000 seater stadium – expendable to 75,000 – will be the new home of the San Francisco 49ers NFL team once it’s open. While it will host the SF team, the building actually sits nearly 40 miles away from the city and it is closer to San Jose, where RAW and the Hall of Fame will be held, than San Francisco is.
The massive stadium will host two thirds of its fans in the lower bowl, giving the Levi’s Stadium one of the largest lowest bowls in all NFL stadiums. Levi Staruss & Co. purchased the naming rights for the stadium after the company agreed to pay $220.3 million to the city of Santa Clara and the San Francisco 49ers over the next 20 years.
The stadium is set to hold its opening for a soccer match on August 2, 2014, in a match between the San Jose Earthquakes and the Seattle Sounders FC.
