Austin Aries wins the Impact Wrestling title on first night back

There’s a new Impact Wrestling champion and his name is Austin Aries. Aries returned on last night’s episode of Impact which was taped earlier last month from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

Aries interrupted a segment between Drake and Adonis and challenged Drake for the title. Drake took off his jacket and looked like he was going to accept the challenge, before walking out. But Adonis, who was standing behind Aries, struck him in the back with the Impact title, prompting Drake to have a change of heart. Drake asked for a referee and immediately went for the cover but Aries kicked out.

After Aries recovered, he delivered the brainbuster suplex on Drake and covered him for the pin, winning the Impact title on his first night back.

“My first decree as @IMPACTWRESTLING Champion. This will now be called the IMPACT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. No weight distinction. I’m not a heavyweight, but I am world class. And that is #TheTruth,” he wrote on Twitter yesterday.
