UFC fighter Tom Lawlor – who is a big wrestling fan – arrived in style yesterday at the UFC 154 weigh-ins paying tribute to The Shockmaster from WCW.

If you recall, The Shockmaster – played by the man formerly known as Tug Boat and Typhoon in WWE – made his WCW debut with a bang, tripping in the entrance.

Lawlor walked out for his weigh-in wearing a helmet similar to that of The Shockmaster and also fell as he went up the steps, imitating the grand debut from WCW.

Lawlor fights Francis Carmont tonight in Montreal, Canada, at UFC 154: St-Pierre vs Condit.

You can see the clip of Lawlor’s entrance and the video of the weigh-ins at http://w-o.it/S4yj4A (starts at the 21st minute)

UFC 154 is now just 10 days away and will be taking place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The main event will be the unification of the Welterweights belt as long time champ Georges St-Pierre returns from a year plus lay-off to take on the interim champion Carlos Condit.

Since both Condit and St-Pierre have worked with Greg Jackson in the past, this time Jackson is staying neutral this time and not coaching or cornering either man. St-Pierre is still training out of his Tri-Star gym in Canada; while Condit is still at Jackson’s gym but is using Mike Winkeljohn and Chris Luttrell as his primary coaches to get him ready.

GSP is returning from a knee injury that has kept him from competing since his unanimous victory over Jake Shields in April of 2011. In the audio you can tell in his voice that he is truly excited about being back training and getting ready for a fight. Usually fighters get worn out preparing for the fight and are looking forward to the vacation time afterwards. This lay-off for St-Pierre though has fueled him even more and made him realize how much he really does enjoy fighting and being part of the UFC.

One of the most talked about aspects during the media call was the potential pound for pound match up between St-Pierre and Anderson Silva. Silva has made it known that he will be in Montreal to watch the fight and cheer on GSP. Dana White when asked wouldn’t be surprised if we were to see a call out from the Middleweight champ if GSP is able to defeat Condit that night.

Dana also stated that he is looking at Toronto, Dallas Cowboys Stadium, or a soccer stadium in Brazil as potential host venues. While Condit, as a fan, is intrigued by the potential GSP vs Silva fight, he is hoping to ruin some people’s plans for that fight. Dana made it clear that the GSP/Silva fight is a pound for pound fight between the top two that has been in everyone’s books for a while now and that should Condit win he will defend the 170 pound title against whoever is next in line.

St-Pierre had this to say when he was asked about Silva being at the fight and his presence: “I don’t care about Anderson Silva. He can do whatever he wants. He can go to Florida or stay in Brazil if he wants. I am focusing on Carlos Condit and that’s all that matters to me.”

Condit is not a fighter to be over looked though as he as shown devastating finishing ability like his fight with Dan Hardy and Dong Hyun Kim. In the more recent with Kim he ended the fight with a flying knee and punches in the first round. In his fight with Nick Diaz for the interim title he showed a superb game plan against a very crafty fighter and executed it almost flawlessly for the decision. Out of Condit’s 28 victories, 13 have been come by KO/TKO while 13 others have come by submission even though he has not submitted any one in the UFC yet.

Las Vegas, Nevada – UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has scored nine consecutive victories en route to a five-year dominant reign atop the 170-pound division. On Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, the champion returns to his hometown after a 17-month absence due to injury looking to unify the welterweight title against dangerous striker Carlos Condit.

“One of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world, Georges St-Pierre, is coming home to Montreal to defend not only his pound-for-pound standing, but his welterweight world title,” UFC President Dana White said.

“St-Pierre has been off for over a year recovering from knee surgery and now has to face his toughest test in interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit, who won the interim championship by defeating Nick Diaz while GSP was injured. So on Nov. 17, in Montreal, Canada, it’s champion vs. champion to see who will leave the undisputed UFC welterweight king!”

Boasting six defenses of his welterweight belt, the dynamic St-Pierre (22-2) has established a historic and unrivaled reign of the welterweight division. Now he faces his toughest threat to date in former WEC and current UFC interim welterweight champion, Carlos Condit (28-5). Having routed his last five opponents on his road toward a shot against St-Pierre, the tactical Condit has shown he has the elusive footwork and pin point striking to silence the critics and dethrone the seemingly insurmountable St-Pierre.

“I’m excited to finally get back in the Octagon and reclaim my spot as the UFC welterweight champion,” St-Pierre said. “Carlos Condit is a very tough opponent. He has really good striking and very good submission skills. I respect him a lot and look forward to fighting him in front of my hometown fans in Montreal.”

An equally eager Condit said: “This is the fight the fans have been waiting so long to see. I still have not realized my goal of being the UFC welterweight champion, and to do that, I need to defeat Georges and unify the belt. I’ve worked my entire career for this fight, and I am excited it is finally happening.”

Also, Johny Hendricks (13-1, fighting out of Dallas, Texas) meets Denmark native Martin Kampmann (20-5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) in a compelling welterweight co-main event with title implications. As the only fighter to defeat interim champion Carlos Condit in the UFC, Kampmann feels a win over Hendricks will put him at the top of the 170-pound division.
Fresh off a pair of wins over former welterweight title challengers Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck, the hard-hitting Hendricks is confident of his standing in the welterweight class and looks to add a fifth consecutive win to his impressive streak on Nov. 17.

In addition to Montreal’s Georges St-Pierre, eight other Canadians will step into the Octagon on Nov. 17 as Thamesford, Ontario’s Mark Hominick returns against Pablo Garza (12-3, fighting out of Fargo, N.D.), Rimouski, Quebec’s Patrick Cote (18-8) faces middleweight Alessio Sakara (19-9, fighting out of Miami, Fla.), Toronto’s Mark Bocek (12-1) battles lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos (17-6, fighting out of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil), Montreal’s John Makdessi (9-2) takes on London, Ontario’s Sam Stout (19-7-1), Calgary’s Nick Ring (13-1) faces middleweight Constantinos Philippou (11-2, fighting out of Long Island, N.Y.), Montreal’s Ivan Menjivar (24-8) takes on bantamweight Azamat Gashimov (7-1, fighting out of Fairfield, N.J.), and Oshawa, Ontario’s native Antonio Carvalho (14-5) will challenge featherweight Rodrigo Damm (10-5, fighting out of Vila Velha, Brazil).

It looks like the king of the welterweights has been given the go ahead to get back in the gym and begin training. Georges St. Pierre has been out of the Octagon since he defeated Jake Shields at UFC 129 in April of 2011.

St. Pierre has been sidelined after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and back in December of last year, he had a successful surgery by Dr. Neal S. ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic whom he also sent out a thank tweet to today.

“I’m now medically cleared to compete in professional mixed martial arts events- Rendez-vous le 17 novembre, @UFC 154, Montreal,” St. Pierre tweeted.

UFC 154 has been scheduled to take place in Montreal, Quebec, Canada at the Bell Center. The event will be headlined by the returning champ taking on the current interim champion Carlos Condit.

Condit won the championship in a five round unanimous decision over Nick Diaz. That fight irked some fight fans as Condit appeared to spend a majority of the fight running from Diaz. While Condit did land some good shots when they mixed it up it was clear his game plan was to not let Diaz trap him against the cage, which he was very successful at. Condit elected after the fight with Diaz to wait for St. Pierre to return rather than defend the interim title.

The co-main event will feature Johny Hendricks versus Martin Kampmann in a number one contenders bout to see who will face the winner in the night’s main event between St. Pierre and Condit.

Also on the card is Mark Bocek versus Rafael dos Anjos, Tom Lawlor versus Francis Carmont, Mark Hominick versus Pablo Garza, and Antonio Carvalho versus Rodrigo Damm.
