- The Suncoast News is reporting that the fight to prevent the release of more audio tapes from Nick Bollea's conversations with his parents from jail to news organizations has been put on hold by Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George Jirotka. Attorneys for the 18 year old are trying to convince the Judge not to allow more recordings to be released to the public. The situation originally went out of control when Pinellas County Sheriff Jim Coats released more than 20 hours of conversation between Nick and his parents which included some pretty horrible remarks regarding the victim in the car crash and their 'friend' John Graziano. Bollea's attorneys sued the Sheriff for violating Nick's privacy and while the Sheriff's office thinks that the conversations are public record just like any other recording, he has since stopped releasing them after getting sued. Attorneys for other media organizations who would benefit from the release of the recordings attended the hearing, where Nick's team argued that he was a juvenile when the Sheriff released the recordings so they would not fall under public records. The associate general counsel for the Sheriff's office said that they should be classified as public since Nick was adjudicated as an adult.
