- According to the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company, 'The Wrestler' was the most expensive movie insurance-wise among the movies which will be part of Oscar night.
Because Mickey Rourke did most of his stunt work in the movie, the price for the insurance went sky high. Usually lead actors or actresses do not perform the dangerous stunts but use a stunt double to avoid any major catastrophes with insurance companies.
"We considered it a major risk because of the factors related to the stunt work: the physicality and quantity of the stunts. Even young actors have difficulty with physically challenging stunts," said Joseph Finnegan, vice president of Fireman's Fund Entertainment division.
If Rourke suffered any serious injury during the filming it would have resulted in delays or even a halt in production.
"Fortunately, he trained and practiced for months, and we worked with the production company to make sure adequate precautions were in place to mitigate the risk," said Finnegan.
