Variety looks at WWE fooling news sites with RAW sale

Reported by: Colin Vassallo
Submitted on: Jun 20, 2009 - 11:37:37 AM

- Variety.com has an article online about the "sale" of Monday Night RAW and how many of the media outlets where fooled by reporting the "sale" as real news.

The chaos started when USA Network and WWE sent a press release announcing the sale to Trump and contained comments even from a USA Network executive.

Two days later USA issued yet another statement saying that the press release was just to continue a storyline and apologized for the confusion. WWE didn't apologize, saying that they do scripted entertainment.

TVGuide.com, Bloomberg and several news sites reported it as the news was real.
