- The decision by WWE to quit CW Network has received quite a few attention today with reports surfacing on TV Week, Mediaweek, The Hollywood Reporter, MSNBC and others. While announcing the switch, WWE did not mention where Smackdown! will be landing, noting that it has already entered talks with other networks. The relationship between WWE and UPN suffered a major blow after UPN moved Smackdown! from Thursdays to Fridays and according to many WWE were not aware of the situation until it was announced to the public in the last quarter of 2005. WWE got the news out to the media yesterday after finding out that The CW were going to announce it to their affiliates themselves and if CW managed to get the word out before it would have appeared that WWE got dumped by CW instead of the other way round. Prior to the merge with WB, UPN renewed WWE's show for two more years in January of 2006. Smackdown! has been losing viewership ever since the 1999-2000 season, with its first year averaging a total of 7.2 million viewers compared to last year's 4.5 million.
