- The Intercontinental title will be defended at a WrestleMania for the first time since 2002 as the current champion John 'Bradshaw' Layfield puts the gold on the line against crowd favorite Rey Mysterio.
The match was announced during the 500th edition of Smackdown this past Friday. Mysterio's last performance at WrestleMania was in 2006 at WrestleMania 22 when he won the World title in his match against Kurt Angle and Randy Orton. He missed the event in 2007 and 2008 due to injuries.
The Intercontinental title was last defended at WrestleMania X8 in a match involving Rob Van Dam and William Regal.
