A news story that appeared on the Associated Press revealed that their seven year old son Daniel was mentally retarded, suffering from a rare medical condition called Fragile X Syndrome. "I think it's fair to say that the subject of caring for that child was part of what made their relationship complicated and difficult, and it's something they were both constantly struggling with," said McDevitt. "We do know it was a source of stress and consternation." Nancy Benoit wanted her husband to spend more time at home to take care of his son with her, although she didn't want him to quit professional wrestling. It's interesting to note that the Associated Press reported today that ten empty beer cans were located in the house along with an empty bottole of wine which was found next to Benoit's dead body.
