- The John Cena movie '12 Rounds' opens tonight across the United States in 2,200 theaters. This is WWE's fourth theatrical release following 'The Marine', also with Cena, 'See No Evil' with Kane and 'The Condemned' with Steve Austin.
'12 Rounds' has absolutely zero chance of making its debut in the first place this weekend and faces some stiff competition from the Dreamworks animation movie 'Monsters Vs. Aliens' which also starts today in a wider release in 4,104 theaters.
WWE Chairman Vince McMahon said that the first two WWE movies are now profitable with the Austin project failing big time and not even close of breaking even.
From the director of 'Die Hard 2' and the producer of 'Speed', '12 Rounds' also has Aidan Gillen and Ashley Scott in supporting roles.
The film was not screened to critics before and a review in an Australian newspaper where the movie is already out completely trashed the film.
"A big, dumb lug of an action movie, '12 Rounds' is fronted by a big, dumb lug named John Cena," said the review in the Herald Sun of Victoria. "Acting is no friend of this professional wrestling icon."
Ouch!
