UFC on FX: Maynard vs Guida live play by play

Tonight the UFC on FX 4 will be coming from Atlantic City, New Jersey. The headliner is Gray Maynard vs Clay Guida and the co-main event will be the rubber match between Sam Stout and Spencer Fisher. Both of the previous Stout vs Fisher bouts finished in the top 10 best fights of the year on UFC.com in their respective years.

Bantamweight
Ken Stone(@K3nStone) vs Dustin "The Disciple" Pague(@DustinPague)

Round 1 -
Pague last fought on June 8th and picked up the win over Jared Papazian. Pague working the leg kick early and Stone catches him with a nice combo. Stone goes for a spinning back fist but Pague ducks under and nails him on the way up with the right hand. Pague lands a knee that catches the head of Stone. Pague is pressing forward but isn't able to get in and out with eating a couple punches. Pague with a right hand that sends Stone backing up momentarily before Stone charges forward. Pague catches Stone now with a kick to the groin while going for an inside leg kick. Pague lands a counter left as Stone comes in with the jab. Pague catches Stone with another right hand that backs him up. Very close first round Pague landed the bigger shots but Stone was landing cleaner punches.

Round 2-
Both men go back to finding their range with the punches. Now Stone goes for the first takedown now. Stone has Pague against the cage and his kneeing the legs of Pague but Pague has the under hooks and prevents the takedown. After almost two minutes the ref seperates them and Stone catches Pague now in the groin. Pague with a spinning back fist that has Stone back pedaling. Stone shakes it off and comes forward now. Stone clips Pague with a left hook as he comes forward and Stone pressures him against the cage momentarily until Pague gets free and goes back to pressing the action. Another close good round.

Round 3-
Pague goes back to the leg kicks. Stone seems to be getting the timing of Pague down as he land the left jab pretty much at will. Stone attempts a takedown but Pague counters and gets the takedown for himself. Stone reverses and his now in the guard of Pague. Stone landing the shots in close and is constantly trying to press Pague's head towards the cage. Stone has him there now and is landing. Pague is able to get back to his feet as Stone is trying to transition. Stone has Pague against the cage still. Both men landing knees as the horn sounds.

Welterweights
Dan Miller(@DanMiller185) vs Ricardo "Golden Boy" Funch

Round 1 -
Miller is showing why he is the biggest favorite of the night early by getting in there and pressing the action with the punches. Miller with a high kick that hits the arms protecting Funch as he is against the cage. Funch is the first to go for a take down and ends up putting Miller against the cage. Miller twice goes for the trip/throw but can't keep Funch down. Miller charges forward now that he has the separation. Funch ties him up and puts Millers back to the cage again. Funch trying for the body lock but can't get it and they trade knees till the ref breaks them. Thirty seconds and they wing punches till the round ends.

Round 2-
Miller comes out with a fury and is backing up Funch. Miller grabs him and locks on a guilotine as he presses Funch against the cage. Miller switches for the take down and Funch delivers a series of nasty elbows to the temple of Miller. Funch chases him against the cage and as he goes for the takedown Miller locks on another guilotine but once again lets go to get the take down. Funch is able to work for the double underhooks and gets the takedown. Miller goes for a knee bar while a Funch is standing over him. Funch starts elbowing the ankle and shin of Miller. Miller lets go of the leg and is able to hit Funch with the upkick and gets back to his feet after eating a little ground and pound. Miller with another guilotine but can't get it locked in before the round ends. Great round very fast paced.

Round 3-
Miller coming forward throwing multiple uppercuts. Miller counters Funch with a right hand that drops Funch. Miller follows him to the canvas and lands some ground and pound and big elbows. Funch gets back up but Miller is still on the attack. Miller drops Funch again as he is backing across the cage. Funch goes for a take down and is now eating some elbows to the temple. Funch gets the take down and lands a few shots before he gets back to his feet. Funch goes for another take down but Miller locks in the guilotine and is not letting go this time. Miller rolls Funch over onto his back and real cranks the neck now. Funch taps to the guilotine. A successful cut to 170 for the first time for Miller.

Welterweights
Matt "The Immortal" Brown(@IamTheImmortal) vs Luis "Beicao" Ramos(@Luis_Beicao)

Round 1 -
Brown is making is third appearence in the cage so far this year. Ramos the aggressor early and he is able to get the take down on Brown and in side control. Brown uses his feet on the cage and is able to get back to his feet. Brown with a clean left jab down the pipe. Ramos with the left, right than leg kick combo. Brown gets a nice knee in close and an elbow. Ramos lands his own elbow and presses Brown back against the cage. Brown is cut open above the right eye it looks like. Ramos keeps him pressed against the cage until the ref separates them with under 10 seconds left.

Round 2-
Ramos looking to the kicks early and than unleashes some winging punches until he can tie up Brown against the cage. Brown is defending well and keep Ramos from getting the takedown. Brown gets the trip and lands some good upper cuts as Ramos is getting up. Ramos is cut across the bridge of the nose. Brown is landing the left jab down the middle as Ramos comes forward. Ramos pressures forward and Brown lands some elbows and puts Ramos against the cage. Brown now with some knees that have rocked Ramos. Ramos tries for another takedown but Brown defends. Brown grabs the plum clinch and unleashes some knees but Ramos is standing still. Brown with a big left than right now Brown with the uppercuts and ref has seen enough and calls a stop to the action even though Ramos was still on his feet but he was taking some wicked shots.

Middleweight
Nick "The Jersey Devil" Catone(@NickCatone) vs Chris Camozzi(@ChrisCamozzi)

Round 1 -
Catone lands an upper cut and right hand early in the fight as he ducked down for a take down and pops back up with the punches. Catone goes for a take down but Camozzi defends and Catone hits him with a knee as they separate. Camozzi with a nice jumping knee that puts Catone against the fence. Catone goes for a trip but when he doesn't get it uses it to create space and regroups in the center of the cage. Camozzi trying to hold Catone at bay with the long punches but Catone is getting in and out. Catone gets the single leg with just over 30 seconds left. Catone and Camozzi are trading elbows now on the ground.

Round 2-
Both men land the right hands at the same time and Catone is staggering back. Camozzi is in no hurry to follow him. Catone comes forward and lands the glancing right hand. Camozzi ties up Catone and backs him into the fence Catone reverses and lands an uppercut as they separate. Catone gets the single leg take down and Camozzi gets the butterfly guard in place. Catone utilizing the elbow from the top now as Camozzi is punching but that is how the round ends.

Round 3-
Camozzi wiht a pair of left hands followed by a knee and Camozzi has busted open Catone. Camozzi with a couple more elbows against the cage. Catone with a right hand that lands flush. Camozzi avoids the take down and the ref stops the action so Catone can be checked by the doctor. The doctor has stopped the fight. The cut was caused by a stepping knee and split him from inside of left brow and part way up the forehead.

Featherweights
Steven "Super" Siler (@SteveSiler) vs Joey "The Raging Warrior" Gambino(@RagingWarrior)

Round 1 -
Gambino pressing the action early. Siler tries for a single but can't get it. Gambino tries for his own take down against the fence but Siler bust open his head with a knee. Siler with the clinch and more knees from against the cage. Siler gets the take down and and is in side control. Siler to the mount punching away. Siler locks in the guilotine and Gambino has to tap out. That was a lot of blood that came out of Gambino's head. Siler stood up and was red from the neck down.

Welterweights

Rick "The Horror" Story(@Rick_Story) vs Brock "The Machine" Jardine(@BrockJardine)
Round 1 -
These two wrestlers square off as Jardine makes his UFC debut. Lots of trying to find the range in the first minute and a half. Story gets the take down and takes the back of Jardine. He has one hook in so far. Story is now on the side of Jardine and hits him with a knee to the body and Jardine uses the next time he goes for the knee to get to his feet. Story with good movement is keeping Jardine from landing much of significance.

Round 2-
Jardine keeps throwing the one punches at a time and Story is avoiding them. Story ducks under right overhand gets the power take down. Story with a couple knees to the body and than takes Jardine's back. Jardine is able to stand up and shake off Story. Story ducks under another right hand and gets the take down and is on the back of Jardine in a seated position against the cage. Jardine gets up and Story with a nice body shot as they break. Story is working the kicks now. Story with a high kick and ducks down and gets the single leg in the center of the cage. Story is looking to make him pay with some ground and pound as the round ends. Very good round for Story

Round 3-
Story ducks down as he lands the right hand to the body and than gets a single leg. Story with a good left hand as Jardine gets up and Story puts him back on the mat lands a couple shots to the body and head and Jardine is back up to his feet. Story with the left hand as Jardine drops down and Story goes to work with the punches mainly left hand and tries to get a guilotine choke but Jardine prevents it by rolling onto his back. Story gets Jardine back to the ground on his knees and lands more knees to Jardine's side. Jardine is able to wiggle free. Jardine comes forward and goes for a take down but Story drops down and tries for an arm bar. Jardine is able to pop is arm out and go after the leg of Story but there is not enough time left. Both men looked exhausted by the end but both men especially Story kept pressing the action till the final horn.

Winner by unanimous decision(30-27x3) Rick "The Horror" Story


Lightweights
Ramsey Nijem(@RamseyNijem) vs C.J. Keith(@CJKeithUFC)

Round 1 -
Keith blocks a looping right hand from Nijem and Nijem looks to tie up Keith with a knee that catches Nijem in the groin and we have a break in the action. Nijem goes for the take down but Keith prevents him from finishing it Nijem puills guard and is on his back but Keith takes mount. Nijem breifly gets up before taking Keith back down and now Nijem is in the mount. Keith is getting pounded on by a postured up Nijem he tries to buck him off but can't get him. Nijem with a couple close elbows and the ref has seen enough and stops the fight.

Winner by TKO at 2:29 of round 1 Ramsey Nijem


Featherweights
Hatsu Hioki vs Ricardo "The Bully" Lamas(@RicardoLamasMMA)

Round 1 -
Hioki with a big reach and height advantage it looks like presses Lamas against the cage and is working the knees. Hioki gets the take down and Lamas immediately reverses onto the top. Hioki goes for an omoplata and Lamas picks him up and falls backwards and it creates enough space for him to slide his arm out and they are back to their feet. Hioki gets the over and under again against the cage and is looking for the trip again. Lamas reverses and puts Hioki but Hioki gets the trip and is in side control. Hioki with hammer fist and short punches. Lamas gets Hioki into half guard. Hioki threatens with a kimura but there is not enough time left.

Round 2-
Hioki with a pair of front kicks that miss in the opening of the round. Lamas when he is persuing is landing some of the punches as long as he gets on the inside. Hioki tries a single and it is defended well. Lamas with a good left hook. Hioki gets the single leg and Lamas is trying to lock in the guilotine. Hioki gets his head out and is in half guard now. Hioki is trying to get out of the guard but Lamas attacks with another guilotine from his back and Hioki pops his head out. Now we do that same thing one more time. You would think Hioki would stop putting his head there by now. Lamas now just holds Hioki close till the round ends.

Round 3-
Hioki is trying to use that front kick to keep Lamas out of his reach. Both men are getting in and out with the right hands now. Lamas starting to mix up head and body combos. Hioki has landed that left jab. Lamas is landing some low kicks. Lamas with a good left hook and Hioki gets the take down but is right into guilotine of Lamas again. This is the deepest yet. Hioki is able to pop his head out. Both men looking tired now as Hioki is holding the position as Lamas punches away at the body till the horn.

Winner by unanimous decision(29-28x3) Ricardo Lamas

Featherweights
Ross "The Real Deal" Pearson(@RossTheRealDeal) vs Cub Swanson(@CubSwanson)

Round 1 -
Swanson is moving a lot here early getting in and out and throwing that chopping outside leg kick. Pearson ducks under and power doubles Swanson to the mat. Swanson uses the cage to get up and has Pearson in a front headlock and lands a couple knees. Swanson with a nice straight that sends an off balanced Pearson tumbling backwards. Swanson goes for a front rolling kick and ends up on his back after it hits the shoulder Pearson and Swanson nails Pearson with an upkick on his way in. Swanson gets back to his feet. Pearson with a body kick and goes back to trying to walk Swanson back into the cage. Swanson keeps circling.

Round 2-
Swanson with another crazy side rolling kick that misses. Pearson ties him up and puts his butt on the mat. Swanson with a clean straight right after they get back to their feet. Pearson is getting the left hand in when he throws it first. Swanson with a jumping knee and gets take down. Swanson connects with an up kick as Pearson walks through it. Pearson now has Swanson on his back and is able to hit Swanson now that he can't move. Pearson with some more ground and pound. Swanson gets to his feet. Swanson with a front kick that Pearson catches it and as he is backing him up Swanson nails him with a pair of right hands that make him drop the leg and than knocks out Pearson with the left hook.

Winner at 1:14 of round 2 by TKO Cub Swanson


Welterweights
Brian "Bad Boy" Ebersole(@TWASEbersole) vs T.J. Waldburger(@TJWaldburger)

Round 1 -
Ebersole comes to the octagon with his chest hair shaved into an arrow pointing up.
Waldburger lands a short left that drops Ebersole within the first minute and then works his way into the full mount position but Ebersole is able to get him off only Waldburger grabs his head and almost gets the darth choke. Ebersole is able to get free and up and lands a nice series of elbows before they break. Ebersole keeps faking like he is going for the single leg. Ebersole gets the clinch and is able to land a nice three punch combo. Waldburger and Ebersole catch each other at the same time and they are both shaking out the cob webbs. Ebersole is coming forward and finding a home for the left hand. Waldburger is against the cage with his arm over the head of Ebersole as the round ends.

Round 2-
Waldburger starts out the round with another left hand than gets the double leg take down. Ebersole keeps an arm in between Waldburger legs and is able to reverse into top position. Waldburger goes straight to the rubber guard and working towards an omoplata. Waldburger transitions to butterfly and then grabs the arm of Ebersole and threatens the arm bar and Ebersole gets up. Ebersole goes back into Waldburger's guard. Waldburger gets him back into a butterfly guard briefly. Ebersole is landing some ground and pound now as Waldburger throws up an arm in triangle. Ebersole is able to get free and takes the back of Waldburger before they roll over and he ends the round with a vicious elblow.

Round 3-
Waldburger catches Ebersole coming in with a right and left combo. Ebersole goes for the thai clinch. Ebersole with a knee and elbow. Ebersole goes for a rolling front flip kick I guess the announcers do not even know what to call it. Ebersole is able to get the single leg off the cage. He is working the shoulder strike now. Waldburger has got his legs up now and is threatening another triangle. Ebersole gets free and is back in the full guard of Waldburger. Waldburger tries to sweep but Ebersole with all his experience has seen this trick before. Ebersole scoring points with the ground and pound as the fight comes to an end.

Winner by unanimous decision(29-28x3)Brian Ebersole.
This is 31yr old Ebersole's 50th win.


Lightweights
Sam "Hands of Stone" Stout(@SammyJStout) vs Spencer "The King" Fisher(@TheKing_Spencer)

Round 1 -
Fisher lands a nice left right combo after they touch gloves. Stout is firing off his own set of combos right in front of Fisher. Fisher catches Stout with a kick to the groin and they break momentarily before they get right back in and bang. Fisher with a good right hand that makes Stout reach for the canvas with one hand to stay up. Fisher with a good left now. Stout gets the take down and is in the closed guard of Fisher. Both men continue to through punches and elbows in bunches they are just on the ground instead. Stout lets Fisher back up only to charge back in and score more points with another take down. They are back up and Fisher lands a spinning back fist as the horn blows.

Round 2-
This round starts and the two rock'em sock'em robots are back at it. Stout with a good straight left hand. Fisher with a right body head combo now. Fisher with a nice counter right left combo off Stout's body shot. Stout unable to get the take down this time. Fisher misses the spinning back fist now. Fisher is constantly walking forward now as Stout has given up on the leg kicks and now Stout goes to the body with thudding right hand. Fisher with another lead right. Stout lands his own counter now as Fisher comes forward. Stout gets a nice double off the break from another cup shot. Just over 30 seconds left in the round. Stout is on top mixing shots to the head and body till the round ends.

Round 3-
The 9th round now for these two men and Fisher starts out with a spinning elbow. Fisher grazes Stout with a spinning back fist and Stout goes to the body with a kick. Fisher with a nice straight left down the pipe. Fisher is now using that left to counter and it is tapping the chin of Stout. Stout with the lead left hook and body kick again. Fisher with another straight left and the right eye of Stout may be swollen closed and not see that punch coming. Stout with a double now that puts Fisher briefly on the mat. Fisher with a right left combo and Stout goes for another double which after he readjusts gets it. Stout is now in half guard and the ref stands them up with 30 seconds left. Stout with right hand combo these two are standing in the pocket and letting the fist fly until the hear the horn. Another great fight from these two.

Winner by unanimous decision (30-27x3) Sam Stout.


Lightweights
Gray "The Bully" Maynard(@GrayMaynard) vs Clay "The Carpenter" Guida(@ClayGuida)

Round 1 -
Guida has the crowd behind him early. Guida is bouncing around a lot but that is no different that any other fight. Maynard is finding no one home when he throws the punches. Guida has cut open the bridge of Maynards nose with a left I believe. Maynard is connecting when he waits and counters Guida. Guida is all over the place but finding a home for the left hand straight up the middle. Maynard seems to be realizing he that it will do him no good to just wing punches at the air. Maynard is trying to walk Guida down to cut off the cage. I don't think Guida stopped bouncing once in the first five minutes.

Round 2-
Maynard takes a finger to the eye and they reset. Maynard is staying in a low stance so far this round. Guida is still getting in and out connecting with the left hand. Maynard clipped him with a left but pretty much the rest are wiffing. Maynard is starting to cut off the cage now and Guida is running out of room. Guida with a partially blocked head kick. Maynard throws the big overhand right and Guida ducks under and gets back to center of the octagon. Maynard grazes Guida with the right hand as Guida finds a home for a right high kick and pair of left hands behind them.

Round 3-
Guida with a left knee that connects to a low stanced maynard. Maynard now catches Guida with a right hand but as he swarms Guida is out of the way. Maynard is tired of chasing Guida and attemots for the first take down. Guida sprawls and uses under hooks to defend. Maynard getting frustrated and throwing his hands in the air as Guida is back pedaling. Maynard is now gingerly walking after Guida. Maynard with a lounging right hand to where Guida was. Guida is getting left hand in as he bounces. Guida now with a right. Maynard goes for another takedown and connects with knees to head and body from the clinch but Guida is out of danger again in second.

Round 4-
Guida with a right hand early and he is back to moving before Maynard can return fire. Maynard tries for the clinch and lands the right hand. Maynard with another right that hits the forehead of Guida. Maynard lands the left as Guida is trying to circle. Maynard gives chase and is able to clip Guida with a looping right but it isnt enough to slow Guida down. Crowd is booing now that there is not much significant landing. Maynard gets a hold of Guida lands knees and punches. Crowd erupts. Maynard hands down walks Guida down trash talking and takes three shots to the jaw and sprawls when Guida goes for the take down. maynard locks in a guilotine and Guida bounces Maynard off the mat to get his head out.

Round 5-
Crowd now is cheering for Maynard after the end of the last round. Maynard is staying low and ducking under the punches of Guida. Maynard walking him down again with his hands at his sides. Guida with a big right kick that rocks Maynard. Maynard yells at him to bring it on. Maynard now is starting to use the pawing hand out front to get a hold of Guida. Guida with a three punch combo and he circles back out. Maynard tries to get a hold of Guida by his braid and the ref warns Guida about his backpedaling that he is running too much. Maynard tries for a single with minute left. Maynard with a knee to the midsection and has guida in the clinch and lands a pair of knees before Guida is back out. Guida takes the center as the horn blows.
Guida is still running circles around the cage and Maynard wants no part of a handshake.

Winner by split decision 48-47, 47-48, 48-47 Gray Maynard


Maynard went from being NJ most hated following two fights with NJ native Frankie Edgar to being cheered through the end of the fight. Micah Miller may have put it best when he said on twitter "I haven't seen a double-turn like that since WrestleMania 13."
