Tonight for the first time I am covering the fights from the Rose Quarter Arena in Portland, Oregon.
Welterweight 170lbs
Jason "The Kansas City Bandit" High vs Nate Moore
Round 1-
Both men get in tight and exchange Jason High with a nice left. Moore takes him to the ground and Jason High has a deep guillotine. Moore taps out.
Winner by submission at :26 of round 1 Jason High.

Welterweights 170lbs
Jordan "Young Gun" Mein vs Tyler "The Evolution" Stinson
Ref: Dave Hagen
Round 1-
Two good lefts and right from Mein. Leg kick now from Mein. Stinson presses forward but good head movement from Mein. Meins hands lookin good. Right eye of Stinson is swelling up and cut under it. Stinson with a straight jab now that is getting in between the hands of Mein. Mein with another pair of nice lefts. Big right from Stinson pops Meins head back like a pez dispenser. Stinson's right side of his face is looking nasty and can't get a take down before the end of the round. Easy round to score for Mein
Round 2-
Mein with an inside leg kick that is checked but you can see the inside of the knee getting red. Mein to the body with a right hand followed by another open left hook. The sound of that body shot was thudding. Mein catches Stinson with a right as he retreats. Stinson with a right but nothing coming behind it. Mein back to the body than head another thudding left to the cheek bone by Mein. Stinson is taking some shots but still eager.
Uppercut by Mein and Stinson gets the takedown. Mein quickly back up but eats a left. Mein ducks under a punch and delivers a straight left. Another good round for Mein.
Round 3-
Mein goes back to the left hand and right body shots. Mein with good head work moving out of the way of Stinson's punches. Mein with a left right left. Now a right upper cut and left hand but Stinson is taking them and still on his feet. Its more and more of the same just Mein does not have as much on his punches anymore.

Lightweights 155lbs
Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal vs Justin "The Silverback" Wilcox
Ref:Big John McCarthy(the place erupts at his intro)
Round 1-
Wilcox with a spinning wheel kick that misses to open the fight. Wilcox looks huge for 155. Masvidal like always is calm and composed. Wilcox is relentless with the pressure here early. Wilcox with a takedown but Masvidal defends Wilcox gets on his back and drags him down anyways. Masvidal against the cage stays up on a knee and gets back to his feet. Wilcox fakes a flying knee and Masvidal with a good straight. Wilcox goes for another take down and Masvidal defends. Wilcox gets free and tries for another but Masvidal is ready and makes him eat a knee on the way in. Masvidal goes for the kill Wilcox runs away and Masvidal is chasing. Masvidal with another jumping knee this time. Wilcox gets free and regains his composure in time to eat a left high kick than a right high kick as the round comes to a close. Masvidal stole that one in the second half of the round.
Round 2-
Wilcox avoids any take downs here so far in the second but Masvidal's striking is starting to find a home. Wilcox with a high kick now. Masvidal sprawls on another take down attempt. Masvidal is doing well at keeping Wilcox from landing and finding a home for the straight when it is open. Masvidal is showing the knee to discourage any take down attempts and sprawls out of the way when Wilcox does attempt. Wilcox finally goes real low and briefly Masvidal is down but right back up and lands another high knee.
Round 3-
Just a side note Wilcox is sponsored by JDrains rooter service as he stands here in front of me according to the back of his shorts.
Wilcox comes out with a big winging right hand. Wilcox punches look like he is trying to end the fight before it can get to the judges. Masvidal is doing well at keeping his guard up to keep anything from landing clean. Wilcox with a winging left and right that misses and Masvidal lands a jab down the middle in between. Masvidal is still composed and clean with his striking. Wilcox now with a great wrestlers double leg but Masvidal wont let him have it for long. They are against the cage here in front of me and Masvidal with some elbows before he gets back up. Wilcox now goes for a single but Masvidal steps to the side and is free. Masvidal attempts a high knee that Wilcox avoids but eats the punch instead.
Great fight from both men.

Lightweight 155lbs
Ryan Couture vs Joe "Hybrid" Duarte
Ref: Shawn Gregory
Round 1-
Couture works hard for the takedowns in the first minute but can't get either attempt. Duarte wants to stand up and bang with Couture but Couture is staying out of range or trying to tie him up when they do get in striking range. Couture with the front kick to the body. Duarte is getting in striking range by going to the body first than back to the head. Duarte with a takedown and Couture gets the legs up for a shoulder lock until Duarte pulls out and lets them get up to their feet. I would have to give the close round to Duarte here.
Round 2-
Couture now gets the take down and pressures Duarte up against the cage and lands a little ground and pound before Duarte gets free and resets in the center. Duarte now with the stepping outside leg kick. Duarte gets the tie up and trip but Couture uses his feet of the cage to get back up. Couture with some knees to the inside of thigh from in close and a dirty elbow that misses as they seperate from the cage. Couture now with a take down and has the back of Duarte. This place erupts and are on their feet. Duarte rolls over and Couture with elbows and punches from the mount. Duarte gives up his back again and the round ends as Couture is trying to lock in the RNC. That was a Couture round.
Round 3-
Couture with the high knee from the thai clinch and Duarte wants free. Duarte circles and lands a nice right leg kick to the body. Couture gets him pressed against the cage and lets go to work the dirty boxing but Duarte escapes. Duarte now with the take down and gets the back. Duarte with a peruvian neck tie choke but Couture is able to get his head out and briefly sweep to side control before they get back up. Duarte with another trip but Couture gets the top but lands to high and Duarte goes out the back. Couture with the take down now and some postured up punches. Duarte escapes but eats a knee from the over under of Couture. Couture has him back on the ground and is working positions. Duarte back to his feet as the round ends.

Those last two rounds were a true mma fight. Portland loves the Coutures' and they showed it tonight.
Lightweights 155lbs
Mizuto "Pugnus" Hirota vs Pat "Bam Bam" Healy

Hirota is a Japan Lightweight Champion making his debut.
Portland's own Pat "Bam Bam" Healy gets the crowd on their feet.
Round 1-
Hirota the shorter fighter tries to stay lower and lead with body shots. Hirota has the body lock and gets the take down off the cage. Hirota with a couple of short punches but not much and the ref is calling for action. Healy is keeping space with his knee and the ref gets them up. Hirota goes right back for the tie up and Healy uses it to put him on the cage. Hirota gets free and now Healy has the take down. Hirota wiggles free as he pulls Healy across the cage who is holding on to his foot. Healy with an inside leg kick. Both men want the top position and keep going for the tie ups. Hirota with a good combo to the head. Healy with knees to the body as Hirota ties him up on the cage. Close round that I would give to Hirota.
Round 2-
Healy with a pair of good lefts to start things. Hirota with a left hook as he steps back that lands on the cheek bone. Hirota gets the tie up on the cage than the trip. Healy is keeping an arm between the legs of Hirota to keep him from getting position. It looks like Healy broke the nose of Hirota in the beginning of the round. Hirota gets another tie up against the cage but Healy switches positions and lands a nice elbow. Healy with the double legged slam now. Hirota goes to the butterfly guard. Healy just keeps punching and not giving Healy any space. Under a minute left and Hirota is able to get up. Healy keeps the pressure on and gets the take down before the round ends.
Healy takes the second round.
Round 3-
Hirota with a pair of right hooks and left to the body before he puts Healy back against the cage. They each are taking turns now putting each others back on the cage. 3 minutes left in the fight and they are just standing and banging. Healy gets the single but doesn't get the take down right away. Hirota uses his hand to stay off his back and get to his feet. Healy still has the single though. Healy gets them back down but Hirota using his feet on the hips from the bottom to create space to punch and get back up. Healy with another take down and is in the center of the cage now. Healy with some elbows to the head and body and Healy is doing everything to keep him from getting up one last time as the round ends.

Middleweights 185lbs
"Ruthless" Robbie Lawler vs Lorenz "The Monsoon" Larkin
Ref: John McCarthy
Round 1-
Lots of missing in the first minute. Lawler gets a hold of him and starts connecting with the big punches he is known for. Lawler gets Larkin against the cage but it is Larkin who gets the take down. Larkin with ground and pound. Vicious shots to the body. Lawler gets back up and stays tied up puts Laekin against the cage and Larkin now with big right hands to the head and body. Lawler covers up as he comes back at Larkin. Lawler gets him against the cage but it is Larkin again with the right upper cuts to the body and knees to the plexes. Larkin again with a big knee to the gut and Lawler keeps leaning on him against the cage.
Round 2-
First minute and half goes by with nothing significant than Larkin lands a knee and Lawler leans back on him against the cage. Lawler with an over hand right that lands and a left before Larkin circles free. Lawler has the single and Larkin goes for a choke. If you want to see some gound movements find about the two minute mark left in this round and watch it as they flip each other back and forth. Lawler goes for the high crotch and Larkin with the glancing elbow. Lawler is not giving Larkin an inch to get his punches off. Larkin cut open Lawler on the top of the head with what looked like a glancing knee. The pole in the corner of the cage was blocking my view.
Round 3-
No grace period in this round as Lawler is going for the end now. Lawler gets him back against the cage and is working the high crotch take down again. Larkin spreads his base. Lawler with a big left hand as he holds Larkins leg in the air. Larkin lands a glancing spinning back fist. Lawler with a high kick that sends the sweat flying from the head of Larkin. Lawler with a straight right. Larkin is stalking now and trying to keep Lawler pinned with now room. Lawler with a huge left that lands clean but Larkin is still up and coming forward. Larkin with an uppercut that looks like it hit the upper chest area. 30 seconds left. Lawler with a left hook that lands. Laekin now firing away and landing these two are going to bang till the horn. Lawler with a jumping knee and Larkin with a three punch combo that all land hard and clean at the end. Excuse me it was three lunging right elbows.
Winner by unanimous decision(30-27x3) and still undefeated Lorenz "The Monsoon" Larkin
After the fight Larkin pleads to the higher ups to allow Strikeforce fighters to get bonuses.
Middleweights 185lbs
Keith "The Dean of Mean" Jardine vs Roger Gracie
Round 1-
Jardine has one of the most unusual styles one hand down and mouth open as he wings punches from way out side. Gracie gets the tie up and takes the fight to the ground. Gracie in the half guard now working to get to side control. Gracie staying tight against him. Jardine is one his side but Gracie has an arm around his neck. Jardine wall walks back to his feet. Gracie gets the fight back to the mat and is punching away as Jardine tries to get his feet against the cage. Gracie is in the mount and flattening him out this could be trouble for Jardine. Gracie Postures up now and lands some elbows. 20 seconds left and Gracie with a triangle attempt from the top it looks like now it is more elbows and Jardine is busted open. That round has to go to Gracie.
Round 2-
Jardine is busted above his left eye. Gracie being patient as Jardine bounces around. Gracie is walking him down and gets the take down as Jardine comes forward with punches. Gracie back to half guard. Now he has the back of Jardine. Jardine is on his knees to prevent the hooks. Gracie gets one in and is working the other side to spread him out. Gracie has the body triangle now. Jardine is bleeding all over now. Gracie rolls them over and has Jardine on top of him with his back against him. Jardine has a full crimson mask now. Gracie goes for the rnc but cant get it under the chin. Gracie goes back to softening him up with punches. Gracie has the arm triangle now from the top. Gracie now in a full mount and goes back to the elbows. 10 sec notice and another elbow from the mount before the round ends.
Stitch has his hands full closing that cut on Jardine.
Round 3-
As the round starts Jardine comes out with Stitch still working. Jardine is closed up for now but has a few cuts and is breathing hard. Gracie barely misses with a front kick. Jardine goes for a leg kick and Gracie tries to tie him up. Jardine pulls free and resets. Gracie with a grazing high knee as Jardine lunges in with the winging punches. Jardine with an upper cut that wobbles the legs of Gracie. Gracie can't get the tie up this time. Gracie ducks under a punch but can't get the tie up so he knees him in the body as Jardine backs up. Both men breathing hard. Minute left. Gracie with a front kick to the gut. Now another and another as Jardine comes in. Jardine charges like a bull at him but Gracie sees them coming and keeps his head out of the way.
Winner by judges scores of 29-27, 30-27, 30-26 for Roger Gracie
Gracie says he was too slippery from blood to get the submission.
Vacant Welterweight Championship 170lbs
Nate "The Great" Marquardt vs Tyron "The Chosen One" Woodley
Ref: Dave Hagen
Round 1-
Woodley catches Marquardt with the right hand that sends him flailing across the cage. Woodley is on his side as Marquardt is able to use the cage to get back up. Marquardt with a knee to the head and than catches Woodley with a high kick Marquardt with a right that wobbles Woodley and Marquardy is going for the kill. Marquardt eats a right uppercut on the way in but is able to get the tie up on the cage in front of me here. Marquart with a knee on the outside and Woodley gets the clinch and lands his own big knee. Woodley is bleeding form the mouth or nose and Marquardt gets in a straight before the horn. Great round.
Round 2-
Marquardt has some vicious leg kicks and Woodley with a head kick. Marquardt is relentless with the inside leg kicks and Woodley tries to tie him up as he comes forward. Both men trying to measure with the jab now and Marquardt with another leg kick in case Woodley's leg forgot what they felt like. Marquardt with a spinning back kick to the body that lands clean. He follows it with a jab down the middle and avoids the punches from woodley. Marquardt gets the take down with a minute left as he uses one hand to almost push Woodley through the cage as he trips him. Woodley is able to get up and eats some body shots before the round ends.
I would give the first two rounds two Marquardt.
Round 3-
Woodley with a pair of nice straifht rights has Marquardt hurt. Woodley with a hook now. Marquardt crumples and Woodley is on top of him right in front of me pounding away. Marquardt goes for the arm bar now. That makes Woodley back off some. Marquardt gets the full guard and the ref stands them up. Woodley with another good right hand and Marquardt is still bringing the fight to him. Marquardt with a straight left and brief tie up before he makes Woodley eat an elbow. Marquardt has him on the cage again and lands a left upper cut. Woodley has leg up separating them. That round to Woodley
Crowd with a big applause as they show Woodley's mom reacting on the screen.
Round 4-
Marquardt walking him down again with a body shot a pair of right hooks now from Marquardt that has Woodley against the cage. Marquardt with two big elbows a left and right uppercut knocks out Woodley and ends his unbeaten record. Those last two uppercuts looked like he was out prior to them landing.
New Champion at 170 Nate "The Great" Marquardt @1:39 of round 4 by KO.
This crowd gives the new champ a standing "O"
Middleweight Championship 185lbs
Luke Rockhold(c) vs Tim Kennedy
Ref: Big John McCarthy
Round 1-
Rockhold the the aggressor early. Rockhold has Kennedy against the cage and using the head to jaw technique to add more pressure to Kennedy. Kennedy now is able to get an elbow in to the side of the head. Kennedy has a partially blocked high kick and Rockhold swings for the fences with overhands from both sides. Kennedy ducks down and picks up the champ and slams him down with authority. Kennedy with some ground and pound now from half guard. Rockhold is holding the arm of Kennedy attempting a kimura maybe from the bottom. Kennedy gets his arm free and gets side control and the champs back briefly before he gets back to his feet. Kennedy gets a push kick before the horn blows.
Close round goes to challenger.
Round 2-
Rockhold comes out with a welt under his right eye. Rockhold catches Kennedy with a head kick Kennedy quickly ties him up and gets to them to the ground. Rockhold transtitions and takes the back of Kennedy. Kennedy tries to dump him forward than gets him shifted to his back before he gets back to his feet. Rockhold with a left right combo that land. Rockhold with a stiff right and he resets. Rockhold with a straight and they are back to the ground. Kennedy reverses and has rockhold against the cage. Rockhold just misses with a head kick that came out of no where that barely cleared the choulder of Kennedy. Rockhold with a good right hook and knee to the body. Rockhold with a body kick now.
That round clearly belonged to the champ.
Round 3-
Rockhold answers a leg kick with one of his own but it lands right under the arm bit. Rockhold with a big hook that Kennedy ducks under and gets the body lock. McCarthy seperates them and it looked like Rockhold tried to get a shot in as the ref was between. Kennedy with a pair of side kicks and ducks under another punch from the champ to get the body lock. Rockhold is pressing forward non stop. Kennedy gets against the cage and starts firing off kicks to the body. Kennedy with a right this time as Rockhold comes forward. Kennedy gets the body lock and take down. Kennedy is in the half guard of the champ and now takes his back. Kennedy falls off and Rockhold gets to his feet but Kennedy still has the body lock. Rockhold is trying to get another kimura but gets free and lands a right hand on the way out. Very close round that could go either way I would give it to Rockhold though.
Round 4-
Rockhold is backing up Kennedy to the cage and Kennedy kicks his way free. Nice sprawl fromn the champ to avoid a take down. Rockhold comes forward with a right that misses but connects a back hand that was more of a slap. Rockhold is back to stalking as this crowd is evenly divided. Rockhold lands a straight left and right hook that drops him and a pair of lefts as they hit the canvas. Kennedy works a guillotine and uses it to get back to his feet. Kennedy is able to briefly get the take down and take the back before the champ rolls over on him and takes half guard.
Round 5-
Good straight right from the challenger and the champ answers with one of his own. Good sprawl from the champ to avoid the take down. Kennedy has the body lock until he tries to punch and Rockhold gets free. Thudding leg kick now from the challenger. Kennedy is working the double against the cage but the champ sprawls. Kennedy is now on his butt against the cage but is holding onto the neck. Rockhold briefly takes his side before they are back up. Kennedy with a side push kick and Rockhold returns the favor with one of his own. Kennedy has another take down stuffed as he ducks under a punch time running out and these two are pressed against the fence. Kennedy lands an elbow before they part and tries one last take down to no avail.
I saw this fight going for the champion 49-46
Winner by judges scores of 49-46x3 for the defending and still Middleweight champion Luke Rockhold
