Nick Diaz suspended for a year for use of marijuana metabolites
Reported by: Colin Vassallo, on May 22, 2012 - 10:49:11 AM
Nick Diaz was suspended for one year by the Nevada State Athletic Commission yesterday for his positive drug test that followed his UFC 143 fight against Carlos Condit.
Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites that night and as part of the punishment he had to surrender $60,000 from the money he earned for the fight which he eventually lost via unanimous decision after five rounds.
Keith Kizer, the Executive Director for NSAC, testified saying that Diaz only submitted a sample of his urine in the early morning hours and suggested that he had tried to dilute the sample by drinking lots of water.
The vote to suspend Diaz was unanimous although MMAFighting.com reports that his legal team is going to try to challenge the decision citing the fact that marijuana metabolites are not prohibited in the state of Nevada.
