Alistair Overeem gets his license back, to fight in February
Reported by: Colin Vassallo, on Jan 9, 2013 - 11:55:55 AM

Former STRIKEFORCE Heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem was granted his license again by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and will be able to fight Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva on the February 2 show in Las Vegas.

His last fight was on December 30, 2011, where he defeated - and retired - Brock Lesnar from his MMA career, ending him quickly in the first round of the main event at UFC 141. Following his win, Overeem was scheduled to fight the then UFC Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos in May.

In late March of last year, just over a month prior to his big fight, Overeem failed a pre-fight drug test administered by the NASC and later that month, UFC President Dana White removed him from his fight. The NASC eventually suspended him for 9 months.

As part of getting his license back, the 32 year old Dutch fighter underwent seven steroid tests in the second half of 2012 all of which were negative for any illegal substances.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission unanimously voted in favor of reinstating Overeem, making him eligible to fight in February.
