Hello, Wrestling-Online fans, and Welcome to the Jumble!
Didn’t expect to hear from me again so soon, did you? Well surprise! I’m baaaaack! Why? Well, because several of my readers (okay, a bunch of my readers) wrote to me about my latest Jumble and gave me some very interesting ideas to think about. (Quick note: I’m not sure when this will be posted but it was written prior to “Night of Champions.”)
1) The Heavyweight belts will switch brands following “Night of Champions.”
I had one of those “duuuuuuh” moments after some of my readers reminded me that the Heavyweight belts have switched brands at least once before and could do so again following the PPV. That would make excellent sense! Trips could retain against John Cena and take his title to “SmackDown” while Batista could defeat Edge and take that belt with him to “Raw.” Why didn’t I think of that before? Answer: Because if I had, then my readers couldn’t have proven to me how brilliant they are! See, there was a method to my madness!
2) Jim Ross moving to “SmackDown” is actually a good idea.
A friend and I were talking the night after “Raw” about J.R. and Michael Cole switching places at least for right now. (Who knows what the future will bring?) We were both completely shocked at the decision to switch Ross for Cole but maybe it will be a good thing after all. A couple of readers said they felt J.R.’s experience will be a breath of fresh air for the stale program, and I couldn’t agree more. J.R. has been a commentator for a long time and is able to keep things straight much better than some of his colleagues can. His play-by-play is excellent and might be what “SmackDown” needs with Foley still being new to the color commentary position. (Of course, that same friend I mentioned a few sentences ago would like nothing more than to see Foley gone from the commentary table but that’s another topic entirely!)
3) The Undertaker can’t be the one behind the collapse of the “Raw” set because he is still a “SmackDown” superstar.
I have to disagree with that for one reason - Taker was banned from the WWE by Vickie Guerrero which means he isn’t considered a “SmackDown” star anymore. WWE.com doesn’t have him listed on the roster for any of the shows at all, which pretty much leaves him open to return to whatever show he wants. So it’s very possible that he will be the one behind Mr. McMahon’s “tragic accident.” I still think it would be a fun way to bring The Deadman back!
4) Guesses on who will feud with who for the Heavyweight titles following “Night of Champions.”
We'll have to wait until the PPV is over and the champs have been crowned before we can truly make predictions on who will start feuding with who, but my readers gave me some interesting choices to ponder. For “SmackDown,” the choice has pretty much been unanimous - Edge will lose his title to Batista and then feud with Triple H who will retain his title against Cena. Makes sense to me since Edge and Triple H are sort of the “big name” stars on “SD” now, but if memory serves me correctly (and since I hit 30 last month my memory is fading, ha ha ha) wasn’t Jeff Hardy drafted to “SD” as well? Perhaps he will get another go at the championship! As for “Raw,” the fans have been more undecided as to who should feud with the champ. Many think Cena will be ticked off after losing to Triple H at “NOC” and will then feud with “Raw’s” new champ, Batista. Since Batista is Hunter’s friend, beating him would sorta-kinda-in a roundabout way be like beating Trips. But how about Chris Jericho, Kane, Shawn Michaels, or CM Punk? Could one of them step up to the plate and challenge Batista instead? So many possibilities, so little time!
Well, that will do it again for me! Thanks for all the great ideas, everyone! Take care and I’ll see ya in The Jumble!
