Hello, Wrestling-Online fans, and Welcome to the Jumble! I’m so sorry my “disrespect vs. disagreement” column is late in getting to you! Between the Easter holiday (which I hope was happy for everyone) and my schedule at work getting more and more crazy, I just haven’t had the time (and to be honest, the energy) to finish writing it. I promise you, though, that it is indeed coming!
So now on to the meat and potatoes of this column! Since this probably won’t be posted until after “WrestleMania” and possibly after this coming Monday’s “Raw” I’m not going to spend a lot of time talking about individual matches, just a general overview of the week’s action and various other little tidbits instead.
In the week leading up to “WrestleMania” all of WWE’s programs had some great matches featuring wrestlers from all three brands competing against each other. At first I found this funny since everyone is talking about the “brand supremacy match” at “Mania” between Batista and Umaga, but when you have a match like “Money in the Bank” or the 24-man battle royal to determine the #1 contender to the ECW Title, you pretty much have to include your wrestlers on the “rival” brands because otherwise you might not have enough wrestlers to make a match. For example, if Chris Jericho had been the only “Raw” superstar to qualify for the “Money in the Bank” match, he would need to appear on either “SmackDown” or ECW in order to face his upcoming opponents and build some heat for “MITB.” And it’s always nice to shake things up a bit and see some matches that we’ve either never seen before or haven’t seen in a long time since the wrestlers are usually on different shows.
I was really sorry to hear about Candice Michelle re-injuring her clavicle and needing another surgery! It’s got to be hard anytime a wrestler is injured and must sit out for any length of time, but right before “WrestleMania,” the “granddaddy of them all,” must be especially tough.
I loved the comment from the WWE’s “WrestleMania” press conference about The Big Show launching the first Mayweather satellite! That’s pretty much what Mayweather looked like a couple of weeks ago when Show threw him out of the ring and onto the wrestlers standing on the floor!
I was going to say something about the guardian of John Graziano suing Terry, Linda, and Nick Bollea for the accident that left John in a semi-conscious state at the Veterans’ Hospital here in Tampa, but I think by now you all know my feelings about this situation and I can’t really say anything more than what I’ve said in the past.
When I read that TNA was trying to forbid it’s wrestlers from attending the WWE’s Hall of Fame ceremony, it made me see red. How could they do that? I realize stars aren’t supposed to show up on the rival company’s shows, but couldn’t TNA have made an exception just this once? Those people bought tickets with their own money and wanted to show their support for the legends about to be inducted, particularly Ric Flair who was a co-worker and an inspiration to many. I don’t see what the harm in that could’ve been.
As for the ceremony itself, I just got done watching the hour and change that was aired on the USA Network and I enjoyed it except for one thing - I know they have to cut speeches due to time constraints (and the fact that they wants fans to buy the DVD when it’s released) but it seemed like the first fifteen or so minutes was strictly The Rock doing his classic shtick and not really talking much about what the Hall of Fame means. Don’t get me wrong, I love listening to The Rock! He’s hilarious! But what I really wanted was to hear him talk a little more about his father’s and grandfather’s contributions to the wrestling world and what impact they had on The Rock’s career. Overall, though, the show was really nice and gave me not only the chance to show support for the legends but to ogle the wrestlers in their suits and ties! (Yes, Jen was drooling over Triple H, Chris Jericho, John Cena, etc, etc, etc!)
Very quickly, here are my predictions for “WrestleMania” (just in case this does get posted before the show; otherwise we’ll just see how well I did afterwards) -
Orton vs. Cena vs. Triple H: Triple H wins and becomes new champ
Edge vs. Undertaker: Hands down, the Deadman prevails!
Shawn Michaels vs. Ric Flair: I’m going with Shawn on this one, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Flair stick around a little while longer
Bunny Mania: I like Beth Phoenix a lot but somehow I think Maria and Ashley, the Playboy Bunnies, will pull out the victory
Money in the Bank: I would love to see John Morrison or Mr. Kennedy win this one
Big Show vs. Floyd Mayweather: Please, please, please let it be Show!
24-man battle royal to determine who will face ECW Champ Chavo Guerrero: It’s about time for Kane to win something
Finlay vs. JBL: Power to the Irish!
Okay, that’s going to do it for me! Take care and I’ll see ya in The Jumble!
