Happy Cinco de Mayo to all that celebrate it. I actually tried to take off work for it before, citing my grandmother's Spanish heritage. Needless to say, I still had to work. As a rib, though, my boss bought me lunch from Taco Bell that day. Hey, joke or not, I never turn down a free meal man.
It's again been awhile since I've written. I'm actually getting some facts together for a book I'm working on. So far, it looks like it could be a fun read. Only time will tell though, I suppose.
For the record, I'm part of the ever-expanding group of people that don't like Mike Adamle. He seems so dry to me, a kind of stale personality. Maybe he'll grow on me in time, I don't know. I actually like Todd Grisham better.
Speaking of which, how about that kiss Mickie laid on him after she won the women's title back from Beth Phoenix? Lucky little bastard. I'm glad she's getting another run now. The Divas' division was getting somewhat monotonous. However, I'm trying to remember another time there were three divas on WWE's Top 25 List. It's nice to see some ladies getting more play. They're earning it, little by little. I still think that the TNA Knockout division is awesome, and holds its own against the Divas.
I'm still trying to understand some peoples' frustration with TNA. There's always something we can bitch about, I guess. It seems like some of us can't do anything else. Listen, I was a die hard WWE loyalist for a long time. When NWATNA first came around, I tried to blow it off, telling myself that it was going to be yet another failed attempt at something different. I was wrong, And I'm man enough to admit it. TNA is still slowly growing, and if Dixie takes her time and measures her steps well, one day it could maybe compete with WWE. Impact continues to be an interesting program. I don't get bored with it like I do with ECW and Smackdown sometimes.
That being said, WWE has been taking a page from TNA lately with the latest string of title defenses. Hell, before the past couple weeks, the world titles were rarely ever defended on Raw or Smackdown. Like it or not, WWE has taken notice of TNA. They had no alternative.
Now, I'm not saying WWE is, or should be threatened by TNA; because they shouldn't- not yet. But, given time to groom its product, barring the massive egos of some; TNA could one day threaten the dynasty that is World Wrestling Entertainment.
Some are complaining about TNA and how they're leaning towards looking more MMA, or too much so. What's wrong with that, really? I guess we've forgotten WWE's attempts with Dan Severn and Ken Shamrock. Since it was WWE, it's okay. Bullshit. And what about the tough man crap with Butterbean and Bart Gunn? I know how hard it is to look at TNA without prejudice. It took me some time. And complaining because TNA works a little stiff to make an attempt to better sell the realism, quit wasting our time. That's what pro wrestling does. It is simulated violence. These guys are paid pretty well to take their bumps, and they know what they're doing.
I'm not trying to rub anyone the wrong way here, though I'm sure I have. When I get e-mails asking about what I think about the crap that is Total Nonstop Action, I always reply with "I actually like that crap. Are you wrestling for a major promotion right now? If not, and I'm betting you're not, spare me your ignorance." I know there's at least a dozen of you saying, "That asshole wrote those exact words to me!"
Then again, I can see why some people would disregard TNA. I was one of those people. I guess what I'm saying here is that even TNA knows it can't compete with WWE now. That shouldn't keep them from trying though, should it? Shouldn't we cut back on the pessimism for a bit, and start with some encouragement? When we watch our kids, say in sports; don't we always tell them to do their best, win or lose? I know I do.... that and the eternal quote of the Brain, "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat."
Random Thoughts: I know, I went a little long about the whole TNA thing. I've received so much feedback about it, I felt it was easiest to address it here.
I hope WWE pushes Michelle McCool more. She's ready. I also hope that they don't just drop Maria from the creative mix. She's been doing so well the past few months, and working extremely hard.
I was actually somewhat saddened by the demise of the Age of Orton. He's a great heel.
Most people feel the same way I do about Ric Flair. He's one of the best ever, and we'll miss seeing him in action. Whoooooooo!
I got a couple new polls up at www.vertebreaker.blogspot.com, so check those out.
Yes, it is true. I'll be 35 on the 29th. Please send cash - no perishables.
