Today was the anniversary of Chris Benoit winning the WCW world title, only to quit and be stripped of it the next day. There's a part of me that still gets pissed when I think about how wrestling has tried to all but erase his existence. I'm still hoping that one day everyone can get passed the terrible event that ended the lives of the Benoit family, and remember Chris for what he was- one of the best wrestlers of all time.
I'd also like it noted that I was not offended with Hustler printing old pictures of Nancy in their rag of a magazine. I don't actually read it, but I don't fault those that do. They were taken a long time ago.
Speaking of which.... THANK YOU LORD! Maria is going to be in Playboy magazine. I knew not stealing my neighbor's lawn mower would gain me favor in God's eyes. Let this be a lesson to everyone. It's rumored that she will challenge for the women's title at WrestleMania. I hope not. Beth Phoenix would tear her a new one.... thank God she already took the pictures.
Candice should be back soon. How much of a build-up will she get? I hope none, and she just shows up and kicks the piss out of Beth. Candice is another lady whose pictures from the past are stirring up the hornet's nest. Hey, if you don't want people to see them, don't take the damn pictures.
Well, Gail Kim lost the TNA Knockouts title to Awesome Kong last week. Bummer. Kong is awesome though. I'm hoping ODB doesn't win the title, and Kim gets it back. ODB needs to hit an A.A. meeting or something. She can carpool with Kurt Angle. Jesus, it's like watching my Aunt Helen wrestle, eeeegh.
I cannot be the only one completely disappointed in the flat return of Y2J. All that build-up, now just JBL. It's a cool angle between the two of them, don't get me wrong, but it seemed like Jericho was going to at the least get two or three shots at the gold. It's a shame.
How long will Orton have the title? Is he actually going to hold it until Cena returns? Man, I hope not. Seeing as Hardy keeps losing to him at the house shows, it looks like Randy will make it through the Rumble with the belt. Who's going to be next in line? What other faces are left besides Triple H?
As far as titles go, please don't let Edge drop the title to Rey Mysterio. Edge is the epitome of what a heel champion should be, and Smackdown needs something to stay interesting. Also, I am not at all offended by the angle between him and Vicky Guererro. Believe it or not, I think Eddie would approve. I can feel the flood of hate mail coming now. Hey, it's true, Eddie was a pro. He knew how the business works; and like it or not, her life has to go on.
I loved the awesome "holy shit" moment at the end of RAW this week. Jeff Hardy is unbelievable. It's a shame he can't stay at this level for his entire career, but who could? The human body just isn't made to take bumps like that week after week. I hate to admit this, but I'd like to see him with a WWE title run, just to see how it plays out.
Random thoughts:
Is Ric Flair really going to keep winning all of his matches until WrestleMania? Oh, and in their match; Triple H put Flair over in a big way, and deserves major kudos.
I'm anxious for Candice to make her return to RAW. Ashley's cool and all, I guess; but she reminds me of a girl I dated after my first marriage that I dumped for being high all the damn time.
Along the same lines, Layla and Maria are still improving on their ring skills, and it shows. Kelly Kelly isn't really, and I'm not a fan of her being Torrie Wilson part 2.
I will be both surprised and impressed if Chavo wins the ECW title. I was actually pulling for Shelton Benjamin to get a run myself, but I take what they give me.
I actually didn't know Ian Hamilton wrote a book. From what little I know about him, I'd bet it pretty good.
Welcome back Big Show! Please don't go to ECW.
As this is the first column I've done this year, Happy New Year (late). Hey, like my wife said when we found out she wasn't pregnant, better late than never.
The Hulkster's latest endeavor, American Gladiators, is an apparent hit. Way to go brother! I still say Brooke Hogan needs to get in the ring. Picture it, Beth Phoenix is in the middle of the ring after beating Mickie for the three thousandth time, and dares anyone to challenge her. All of the sudden, Real American starts playing, and Brooke comes out wearing Hulkster attire. Three punches, a big boot, and a leg drop later; Beth is down, and the legacy continues! Yes! Just a thought.... I'm just sayin'...
