Judge denies Gawker motion for new trial in Hogan sex tape case

Hulk Hogan and Gawker are back in court today as their case continues but it was bad news for Gawker as their motion for a new trial was denied by Judge Pamela Campbell. She also said she will not reduce the $140 million judgment.

Out of the $140 million that Hogan was awarded, $55 million of them were listed as economic damages. Gawker’s legal team argued that this has to be reduced and “at most” it should be $525,000 or less. Gawker argued that that’s the money that Hogan could have made if he marketed the sex tape, a number which was brought up by their paid expert witness during the trial in March.

Gawker is ready to appeal but first has to put down a sum to go forward with their legal battle, a sum which will be decided by the judge. The company is confident that the court of appeals will overturn the judgment and in previous appeal fights Gawker always found a way to win against Hogan.
