WWE invites Turner, Shaw, Bischoff for WCW DVD involvement

Postby newswire on 05-06-2009 11:49 AM

- WWE has apparently contacted Ted Turner and Bill Shaw to be a part of the new WCW DVD that they are producing which is titled "The Rise and Fall of WCW".

Eric Bischoff revealed this on his Twitter account adding that both individuals declined the offer to help. Bischoff also refused the invitation and didn't want to be a part of the production of the DVD.

Turner owned WCW for a long time until he was kicked out of the company he created and McMahon always referred to Turner as his arch rival. Shaw was a TBS executive who was involved in running WCW in the early 90's.

That video won't fly as far then! It'll still sell but without Turner, Shaw and especially Bischoff, it won't be as interesting.

This DVD will definitely sell, but with out these guys, it just wont be the same. I wonder why Bischoff declined. It will sell better then the ECW one (which has the same title incidentally).

But what I have noticed about WWE's production on WCW videos, they tend the bash WCW a lot more than is needed. Like the Starrcade DVD that recently came out, they talked a lot about how WCW failed, I thought I was watching a documentary about the PPV, not the company.

But I would definitely buy a copy if it ever gets underway.

You probably hit on why Bischoff declined. WWE DOES tend to bash WCW more than needed. I think most fans know that WCW made some key mistakes so there is no need to bash it out like that. I noticed while they did point out errors with both ECW and WCCW, they still treated to organizations with the respect that they deserved. To me, the WCW bashing is more like holding a grudge on Vince's part. I mean, they are gone and they were your rivals and (yes) they tried to put you out of business Vince BUT without them and ECW, there probably wouldn't have been an "Attitude" era and since they both fell, WWE has pretty much sucked except for a few periods over the past few years!

Yeah. Exactly. In the ECW DVD they did point out the flaws in the business but did a great job concentrating on what they did best. WCW was a strong company (my favorite during the wars) and need to be rewarded to making wrestling and WWE what they are today.

Screw Eric Bitchoff-who needs him? What do they want him to say-that he ran WCW into the ground? His ego wouldn't allow it. He & his buttbuddies The Huckster & Jason "I'm Not Harvey" Hervey are way too Hollywood and apparently are "above" this sort of thing.

Still Ratfink, it would've been nice to hear his spin on things in WCW. He wasn't the only one that was responsible for the collapse. I'd say Ted Turner's buddies had a lot to do with it too (even moreso than Bischoff).

But from what I understand, Bill Goldberg, Kevin Sullivan, David Crockett, Jim Crockett and former TBS President Of Sports Hervey Shiller is supposed to be on the DVD.

Kind of sucks that guys like Sting and Booker T. won't be on there though.

If you really want his spin, read his book; you can get it for next to nothing on Amazon. I agree on Sting, BT, et al.

Hmm, I assume you mean "Controversy Creates Cash"? I have been curious about that book. I had heard he not only slammed the usual suspects (Ric Flair for example) but he also drummed Hall, Nash and Hulk Hogan pretty good too.

That's the one. Apparently he's beyond reproach but IMHO, he's stepped on his dick a few times; not in his own words but one can read between the lines. He's nothing but a glorified announcer who conned Billionaire Ted (an easy mark-ask Hanoi Jane Fonda) and sucked up to the Huckster and now he's on Hervey's tit as well. He's a Vinnie Mac wannabe who never will be. Can you see Howard "The Fink" Finkel heading up WWE? As Gorilla would say, "gimme a break!" Pissoff, Eric.

The disc and chapter sequence was just revealed, and from the looks of it, it will be a great DVD. I can't see WWE really bashing WCW in much of the DVD until the final two chapters, how long those chapters are, we will have to wait and see. It has some great, great matches as well on the final two disc. I am real excited for this DVD.

That makes 2 of us. I hope WWE releases a trove of the NWA/WCW/CWG stuff. That used to make my Saturday afternoon! Now if only someone would put out some Continental/UWF/Mid-South goodies...........
