RAW, Nuggets NBA game scheduled on same day at same arena

Postby newswire on 05-18-2009 03:07 PM

- The May 25th RAW scheduled for the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO., will be clashing with the NBA Western Conference Finals match between the Denver Nuggets and the Los Angeles Lakers which will also be playing in the same arena at the same time.

Officials for the Pepsi Center are trying to find an alternate venue for WWE as the Nuggets will not be kicked out from their own home for WWE and a statement from the Pepsi Center to Denver's 7NEWS said that the NBA game is certainly on for Monday night.

WWE also released their own statement saying, "The WWE and Denver Nuggets are currently at an impasse in resolving a scheduling debacle by the team and the Pepsi Center."

The responsibility of booking events at the arena and making sure that there are no double bookings even though it involves taking chances ultimately lies in the hands of the Pepsi Center staff.

"Even though the Denver Nuggets had a strong team this year and were projected to make the playoffs, obviously Nuggets and Pepsi Center owner Stan Kroenke did not have enough faith in his own team to hold the May 25th date for a potential playoff game," WWE Chairman Vince McMahon said.

WWE has had some great events in Colorado springs a few miles South of Denver.

Haha. Did anyone see McMahon pull out a Lakers jersey during an interview? That was hilarious.

LOL yea. This is some great, unexpected publicity for WWE. I wouldn't be surprised if they invite the Nuggets owner for some on screen confrontation LOL.

They're talking about moving it to LA or NY, that seems to drastic. Moving to LA would be sweet since Vince did flash a Lakers jersey on the screen. But a move like that would seem too far.

There has to be a decent sized civic center or college arena around that area. Denver is a big city after all.

It looks like it is official. I just read on NBA.com that McMahon has moved RAW to the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It's a catchy idea, but I wonder how the WWE could do something like this. Are the fans who purchased tickets to the show in Denver expected to travel nearly 900 miles to Hollywood? This just seems like a big mess.

If I was Vince I would never go back to the Pepsi Center. I'd offer those who purchased tickets for Monday Night Raw a refund of their money. What the Pepsi Center and Stan Kroenke did was totally wrong. The WWE had this Monday booked since August of 2008. Granted the Contract wasn't signed by the Pepsi Center before last April. The NBA playoff game should have been had at The Staples Center. The way Kroenke spoke about WWE just goes to show what kind of bad businessman he really is. I mean The WWE had sold the Pepsi Center out for this Monday's Monday Night Raw. Not to mention they do have a contract and no where in the contract does it say that the Pepsi Center can toss them aside just because something like an NBA playoff came up.

What's sad, to me, this is the most interesting storyline I've seen in the WWE in a while.

The NBA Playoffs are a big deal. No question. Normally, I would say the NBA should trump WWE. However, in this case, Stan Kroenke is totally to blame here for bad scheduling! The NBA Playoff game should've been at The Staples Center, its that simple! I know that sucks for basketball fans but from a business point of view, WWE had that arena rented well in advance (almost a year).

I am not sure I would've moved it to L.A. though! I would've found an arena close by that was open or even a college arena, just to honor those tickets! If they are coming back in the future, those fans should be allowed in and those tickets for that event should be honored. If not, then they should get a refund.

Shady on Vince's part but this whole thing is the fault of Kroenke and could've been easily avoided.
