WWE heading to Iraq for sixth Tribute to the Troops show

Postby newswire on 11-02-2008 01:41 PM

- A select number of WWE Superstars and crew will be heading to Baghdad, Iraq, in the beginning of next month to tape the Tribute to the Troops Christmas edition of Monday Night RAW. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon revealed this during an interview with website Zap2It.com while talking about RAW's 800th show celebration which airs tomorrow. "We go to all the FOBs [Forward Operating Bases] where nobody goes. It's really cool to see the looks on the men's and women's faces when they see a touch of Americana. We actually get more out of it, I think, than the troops do," he said. "The feedback you get is enormous. They so much appreciate any slice of Americana. It's really all about the troops. It's not about us. The matches and so forth are OK, but it's really about messaging and communication." The exact dates and locations which will be visited by the WWE crew are not advertised prior to actually going to Iraq due to security issues.

Too bad TNA doesn't make TV appearance from Iraq. Yeah, they too travel the world but TV is limited.

You think the troops would go for TNA? I think they'd rather be on the front lines LOL. Ok maybe not that bad.

I am sure that the troops would like TNA. But the Military Entertainment will provide a variety of entertainment for the troops. Now that WWE is there I believe that they would accept all offers in the future because if they do not,
TNA would be in. I remember that Bob Hope spent many of his Christmas Holidays entertaining the troops. He was a great man. The Dallas Cowboy Cheer Leaders have entertained the troops for years and I believe that there have been other Cheer Leader's entertain also.

I always enjoy watching these shows. No story lines, the superstars love it, and well preformed matches, in a new environment.

The other year, there were a few bombs dropped before the setup of TTTT the other year, so WWE superstars battling there will be a little risky. And there is no telling how many troops will stand guard to prevent such outside attack.

I believe that when those wrestlers experienced the real world in a war zone, it impressed those back home inthe United States of what our troops go through to keep the United States of America free. I am happy that you brought that up, symbolic X, because I believe that was important for those wrestlers to experience.

A big Kudo for WWE when the President of the United States gives a message on a WWE program, especially when it is in a war zone entertaining our troops.

I'm glad this won't take over a new episode of RAW/SD like the last time.
